Manjal Neeraattu

An intense ritual where devotees engage in splashing hot turmeric water on to their bodies using ‘kavung (arecanut) pookkula’.

After killing the Demon Darika, goddess Parvathi anoints (a religious rite in which a liquid is poured onto an image or deity as offering) goddess Bhadrakali to conciliate her anger. Manjal Neerattu is performed annually in memory of this event.
